My Advisor: A Mentor who Determines My Path
Based on the great importance of the academic advisor and the significant role of academic advising in determining the academic path of students, the Student Support Centre in the Deanship of Admission, Registration & Student Affairs held a workshop entitled “My Advisor is My Mentors Who Determines My Path”. The goal of the workshop was to define the mission of the academic advisor and his effective role in the success of the students’ academic plan and in overcoming their difficulties. The workshop also aimed at emphasizing the relation between academic advising and the Student Support Centre. The workshop was presented by Dr. Maha Al-Kallab, Supervisor of the Student Support Centre, in the presence of a number of academic advisors at the college level, vice deans, department heads and faculty members. The focus was on defining the academic advisor’s duties & challenges, goals of advising and the role of Student Support Centre in backing up the advising task. A number of effective academic advising samples from both sides of campus were displayed to the audience. After that Mr. Anand Krishna presented an overview of the student information system (SIS), illustrating how it can be used by academic advisors in facilitating their task. Dr. Abdul Latif bin Mehmes, Head of the Humanities Department, and Mrs. Raghad Al Samadi, Faculty Member at the College of Medicine, also participated in the workshop. At the conclusion of the workshop, the Student Support Center expressed thanks and appreciation to the attendees and reviewed the findings of the workshop, which stressed the importance of academic guidance and the need to master its mechanisms and related skills.
