DAU is committed to preserving the rights of students with disabilities, providing a supportive environment, and encouraging them to participate in all aspects of the university’s academic and social life. DAU 5-4: Students of Determination Policy
Educational Services
- Creating a database for male and female students with special needs in the colleges of the university.
- Providing special accommodation, such as accessible classrooms and assistive technology.
- Helping students choose a suitable specialization.
- Establishing appropriate arrangements: orientation to the university and program, registration of courses, liaison with students’ instructors, permission to record lectures, etc.
- Assisting students in a variety of aspects of their university life, including relationships with peers and administration, and intervening in appropriate circumstances (such as note-taking, exam writing, mobility assistance, etc.).
- Providing comfortable and easy-to-use exam halls that ensure optimal performance.
Psychosocial Services
- Conducting a case study for students with special needs.
- Helping to overcome psychological crises and social problems through individual or group counseling sessions.
Recreational services:
- Organizing trips and field trips for entertainment and rejuvenation, such as participating in national holidays.
- Participation in international celebrations inside and outside the university (International Day of Disability – World Autism Day – Deaf Week).
Adequate facilities and equipment for students with disabilities:
- Providing wheelchairs at the gates for easy transportation of the students inside the buildings.
- Providing chairs in the chapels inside the university buildings.
- Availing wheelchair (disabled) ramps in all locations with stairs.
- Availing right-sided classroom chairs for left-handed students.
- Seating chairs installed in all corridors and gathering points.
- Twin elevators neighboring all stairs.
- Availing handicapped toilets.
- Provision of special parking spaces (close to the campus gate) for vehicles of students with disabilities.
