Academic Advising
Get counselling, guidance, and advice services
Every student at DAU is assigned an academic advisor, and students are required to meet with that individual every semester. Academic advisors are responsible for tracking the progress of students from acceptance to graduation. As advisors, they can share information and discuss majors and programs of study, graduation requirements, as well as coop training, campus events, and much more.
Students are responsible for communicating and meeting their academic advisors through any communication tool such as email, phone, or in-person visits during office hours. Through SIS, students can schedule an appointment with their advisor. To schedule an appointment with your advisor, click here.
DAU Academic Advising Handbook has been developed to assist academic advisors and students in promoting effective academic advising practice that enhances and enriches their educational experience and goes beyond course selection and early approval. Academic Advising Handbook
Psychological and Social Advising
DAU offers support and academic and social guidance to students in order to help them accomplish psychological and social stability. Diverse areas of personal concern may be explored in the counseling meetings as decision making, procrastination, communication difficulties, self-esteem, interpersonal conflicts, stress management, personal relationships, physical/emotional abuse, anxiety, depression, etc. Student-counseling visits are considered confidential. A student who encounters difficulties during their studies may contact or visit the Student Advising Center to schedule an appointment. Office Hours
Teachers schedule office hours outside of class for students to meet with them to discuss the material being discussed in class or other interests they may have, to ask for extra help, to clarify material presented in class, or to follow up on aspects that students find compelling.
Most teaching staff do not require students to attend office hours. Students are expected to decide for themselves when they need or want to participate. Teachers usually announce their office hours on LMS and post it on their office doors. To schedule an appointment with your teacher, click here.
