Program Overview:
The Dental Internship Program is a 12-month training program that qualifies holders of a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree to be registered as dentists by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
The core of the Dental Internship Program is to facilitate the transition of closely supervised undergraduate students into independent dental practitioners. The internship program at the College of Dentistry at Dar Al Uloom University includes several specialties that interns undergo, which may help them identify their specific area of interest in dentistry and provide them with sufficient information regarding various career options.
This program aims to achieve the following:
- Improve interns’ knowledge of dentistry.
- Develop interns’ clinical skills.
- Build interns’ confidence in their skills and abilities.
- Improve communication skills.
- Develop professionalism.
- Develop scientific research skills.
- Participate in community and volunteer dentistry projects.
Responsibilities of the Internship Program Committee:
- Provide appropriate orientation to new interns.
- Monitor the overall process of the internship program.
- Monitor trainees’ progress throughout the program.
- Discuss important issues and concerns of trainees.
- Provide logistical support to trainees throughout the program.
- Ensure that all trainees have a good training environment and facilities.
- Communicate with trainees’ clinical and research supervisors.
- Organize the program’s activity schedule.
- Review clinical performance, research methods, and case presentations to trainees.
- Provide effective constructive feedback to trainees on a regular basis.
- Provide trainees with adequate information regarding career planning.
- Assign trainees to accredited training centers.
- Provide trainees with a training certificate at the end of the program.
- Take appropriate disciplinary action against trainees who violate the program’s rules and regulations.
