يركز المقرر على تنمية المهارات الكتابية لدى طلبة برنامج الإعداد الجامعي في جامعة دار العلوم، وتطبيق تلك المهارات في حياتهم الجامعية والعملية. بما في ذلك توظيف المهارات الخاصة بعلامات الترقيم، والسلامة النحوية، والسلامة الإملائية . كذلك يتناول المقرر تنظيم الألفاظ وفق نسق لغوي صحيح، صياغة التعبير الكتابي بأسلوب سليم، صياغة الرسائل الإدارية والاجتماعية والإلكترونية، التمكن من مراجعة المعاجم اللغوية واستخراج معاني الكلمات، إضافة إلى مهارات كتابة المقالات بصورة سليمة

يتناول المقرر المهارات اللغوية الأساسية خاصة في المستوى التركيبي: المبني والمعرب، وأنواع الإعراب، وعلامات الإعراب الأصلية والفرعية، والجملة العربية الاسمية والفعلية، وروابطها، ومكملاتها؛ وذلك من واقع النصوص المدروسة بقراءتها، واستيعابها، وفهمها، واستخلاص القواعد النحوية منها، ومناقشتها.

CSKL1100 ( Computer skill ) Credit Hours: 3
The Course uses both lecturers and practical applications to introduce students to: • The basic computer concepts in Hardware, Software, Networking, Computer Security, and Websites. • Applications widely used include Word Processing, Spreadsheets, and Presentation. • The course will also help students develop critical thinking skills as well as learning terminology and problem-solving techniques

ENGL1111 ( Oral Communication I ) Credit Hours: 3
This course integrates listening and speaking skills and builds on the foundation provided by the level C courses. The course provides instruction and practice on listening strategies like listening for general information and detail, guessing word meaning from context. The speaking section of the course attempts to develop presentation skills such as format, organization, body language and eye contact. Students practice conversations and role-plays in order to build on their skills.

ENGL1112 ( Grammar ) Credit Hours: 2
This course focuses on the acquisition of the essential grammatical skills needed in communication and builds on the foundation provided by the level C (A1 CEFR) courses. The course provides instruction and practice on grammar learning strategies. It attempts to develop a deep grounding of verbs and tenses focusing on aspects of the present, past, and future tenses in addition to the time clauses and if clauses employed in specific contexts. It also strengthens the communicative skills through active engagement in classroom activities and practice.

ENGL1113 ( Reading & Writing I ) Credit Hours: 3
The course is designed to equip students with A2 CEFR competency in Reading & Writing. The course provides instruction and practice on reading strategies like scanning, skimming, context clues, and summarizing. The writing section of the course attempts to develop writing accurate, concise, and well-connected paragraphs, and summaries. Concepts of writing processes like brainstorming, planning, drafting, and revising are introduced and practiced.

ENGL1121 ( Oral Communication II ) Credit Hours: 3
This course is for students who wish to improve their listening and speaking skills to reach a B1 CEFR level competency. There is a greater focus on the application of effective listening for extended academic lectures, talks, reports, and radio programs. Intercultural communication, pronunciation, intonation patterns, stress placement, and leaning and reproducing high frequency vocabulary and grammatical structures are also prominent features of the course.

ENGL1122 ( IELTS Exam Preparation ) Credit Hours: 2
This course will cover each of the four skills tested in the IELTS test: Reading and Writing Task one. Using a textbook, classroom activities, and practice tests, students will be exposed to a variety of strategies in order to improve their IELTS score and make them familiar with the format and design of the exam. A variety of test-taking skills will be taught and practiced.

ENGL1123 ( Reading & Writing II ) Credit Hours: 3
Based on developing students reading and writing skills from a constructivist approach which favours group work and collaborative engagement, this course aims to promote learners’ critical reading sub-skills and writing skills. In addition to fostering critical thinking skills and academic success, Q Skills for Success Reading and Writing 3 offers an innovative critical thinking framework for each unit. In addition to developing key cognitive skills such as analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating, students also develop the language skills necessary to achieve academic success.

ISLM101 ( Introduction to Islamic Doctrine (Fiqh) ) Credit Hours: 3
This course addresses concepts, processes and skills pertaining to context, structure and climate as determinants which shape the built environment and support the communication of intended concepts and meanings. This studio focuses on building-types which exhibit complexity and challenge. Project designs must show clear understanding of structural, mechanical and construction systems, along with space planning. Architectural programming is introduced.

MATH1100 ( Elementary Mathematics ) Credit Hours: 4
The course is designed to provide prep year students with skills and knowledge necessary for using computers in their future courses. Emphasis will be given to applications and independent work.Limits and continuity of functions of a single variable. Derivatives of Polynomials and xponential Functions. The Product and Quotient Rules. The Chain Rule. Implicit differentiation. Derivatives of Logarithmic Functions. Related Rates. Linear pproximations and Differentials. Maximum and Minimum of functions. First and second derivative tests for local extrema. Inflection points. Curve sketching. ndeterminate Forms and L’Hopital’s Rule, Applied extrema problems. The Mean Value Theorem and applications.

PHED1101 ( Physical Education 1 ) Credit Hours: 1
This course introduces several activities at a basic level, e.g. basketball, football, handball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, taekwondo, karate, judo, weight-training and physical fitness. Each introduction lasts for three weeks. Each student selects a minimum of three activities. There are also seminars on health maintenance for over-40s, on healthy diets and infectious diseases.

This course is designed to increase the chances of success for first year students. The course teaches proven academic learning strategies that require in-depth analysis and consistent application, resulting in academic success and preparation for professional careers. These skills and strategies include goal setting, time management, self-assessment of preferred learning styles and career aptitudes, academic reading, note-taking, test taking and memory techniques.

DES101 ( Design Foundation I ) Credit Hours: 3
This course addresses the study of the basic elements and principles of design. It applies an exploration of problem solving and design elements and principles in 2-dimentional compositions.

DES102 ( Descriptive Drawing I ) Credit Hours: 3
The course introduces students to the fundamental principles of analytical drawing and presenting design concepts. The course introduces students to manual drafting processes including freehand drawing, single-view drawing, and pictorial drawing.

DES103 ( Digital Photography and Image Processing ) Credit Hours: 2
Introduction to digital photography and digital camera operations. The course covers fundamental principles of digital imaging using the most updated image processing software. Topics include the production, manipulation and output of digital images, as well as the aesthetics of photographic image manipulation, both in relation to the student’s work and from an historical perspective. Students learn to produce high quality images from stock imaging and scanning from film and flat art work.

DES111 ( Design Foundation II ) Credit Hours: 4
This course explores the diversity of interior building and finish materials, expanding the opportunities for creative design solutions. Topics include natural and manmade materials, flooring, wall and ceiling systems focusing on sustainable products. Analysis of application of materials based on sustainability and functionality is highlighted. The teaching approach of this course encourages critical thinking and cooperative learning, as well as independence and self- teaching, since these are necessary skills for working in an interior design professional or academic setting.

DES112 ( Descriptive Drawing II ) Credit Hours: 2
The aim of this course to introduce students to the principles of drawing, along with the principles of perspective drawing, shade and shadow, and rendering techniques in ink and pencil. Students learn to draw and detail objects and spaces in one-point and two-point perspective drawings using mainly pencil and ink media. The course also introduces the principles of shade-and-shadow, shadow of point, lines, planes and volumes.

DES113 ( Digital Media for Design ) Credit Hours: 3
This course is designed to introduce students to fundamentals of AutoCAD, one of the leading and sophisticated design software that allow them to create distinctive attractive artwork graphics for any simple of complex project and to maneuver it by making drawings from scratch, editing and printing out high color quality drawings in any regulation.

MATH101 ( Mathematics I) Credit Hours: 4
The course is aimed at developing the basic Mathematical skills for Engineering students that are imperative for effective understanding of Engineering subjects. The topics introduced will serve as basic tools for specialized studies in many Engineering fields. There are four main sections: functions and models, limit and derivative, differentiation rules, application of differentiation.

IDE201 ( Introduction in interior design ) Credit Hours: 2
The course introduces the processes of interior design, and the diverse aspects and considerations involved in practicing both residential and commercial design. This course introduces the students to interior design as a profession and provides a wide perspective of interior design.
Prerequisite: DES101 – DES102 – DES103
IDE202 ( Interior Design I ) Credit Hours: 4
This is a design studio which introduces the principles of interior design, including unity, balance, proportion, scale, rhythm and emphasis. Students learn about their definition and practical application through related assignments. In addition, students are introduced to basic color psychology, client-analysis, selections of finishes and moods, and sample board presentation techniques. Anthropometrics and ergonomics will be reviewed and an orientation to the profession at local and national levels will take place

IDE211 ( Interior Design II ) Credit Hours: 4
This is a fundamental studio course in which the student develops a residential interior. The course includes lectures, in-class assignments, on-site investigation, field trips and critiques. The students will accomplish projects and learn essential skills such as client analysis, programming, space planning, code analysis and furniture-and-finish selection. In addition, electrical, lighting, and plumbing requirements are introduced.

IDE212 ( Textiles for Interior Design ) Credit Hours: 2
This course involves a study of the production, properties and performance of textiles for interiors with emphasis on the selection of textiles for specific environmental applications. It investigates the science and technology of textiles through a study of properties and performance, allowing students to make informed consumer choices in the textiles area. Students will learn to identify by fiber content, weave and finish, and will understand the effect of these components on the performance of textile products. They will study the natural and manufactured fibers and their properties and uses, with emphasis on textiles used for finishes, furnishings and soft goods. Students will understand life-safety ratings for textile products in various applications.

IDE213 ( Graphic communication ) Credit Hours: 3
This course further introduces the student to the principles of graphic communication and consists of a series of exercises aimed at developing student graphic communication skills which are an integral part of architectural education and professional practice. It introduces students to the principles of rendering techniques, and they will learn to present and render architectural interiors and spaces using various presentation media such as ink, watercolor pencils, colored pencils, markers, chalk, digital media, etc. The course emphasizes the development of an individual approach to representation, and a wide variety of assignments encourages the student to develop an understanding of a range of techniques and drawing media. Students render illustrations from publications as well as views from personal project work. Digital media is introduced as one form of presentation media. Sketching skills built-up in previous courses will be developed here.

IDE214 ( Human behavior ) Credit Hours: 2
This course constitutes an investigation into the design factors necessary for human living. It looks at the design of the built environment with emphasis on human needs and how the social sciences can contribute to interior design and practice. The influence of other factors such as climate, materials, technology, and physical context are considered, and interior design principles are formulated from cross-cultural examples of world architecture.
Prerequisite: DES111 – IDE201 – IDE202
IDE301 ( Interior design ||| Commercial design ) Credit Hours: 4
This is a fundamental course in the design of business environments. Through studio projects, lectures and field trips, the student develops a commercial interior which includes critical client analysis, complex programming, space-planning and the use of open-office systems. The student is also introduced to relevant accessibility codes/legislation and standard building and fire-safety codes as they prelate to commercial design.

IDE302 ( Materials in interior design ) Credit Hours: 2
This course address products and finishing materials for the interior environment which considers basic materials, manufacturing processes and the generic characteristics of goods specified by the interior designer. There is exploration of the materials used in interior environments, concentrating on the functional aspects of finishes and materials and how they are communicated in design projects including estimation, specification writing and contract-documentation.

IDE303 ( Advanced 3D modeling and animation ) Credit Hours: 3
This is an advanced course which builds upon the outcomes and concepts presented in DES113 and focuses on advanced solid modeling and animation techniques utilizing parametric CAD software. It expands and applies the fundamental knowledge and skills acquired in DES113. The course explores advanced topics in three-dimensional modeling, lighting, shading, texturing, rendering, animation and other related operations as they apply to architecture and related fields. Emphasis will be placed on the careful application of modeling, texture maps and lighting to simulate real world material effects, finishes and surface graphics.

IDE304 ( History of Furniture and Interior Design I ) Credit Hours: 2
The course covers the evolution of furniture styles, decorative elements/motifs and interior design. It is an introduction to the history of furniture design, decoration, and interior design covering the Ancient World period, the Classical World period, the Middle Ages and Islamic World. The student explores design choices and critically analyzes existing designs based on historical information. This course prepares students to participate in design work in a broader context.

IDE311 ( Interior Design IV Hospitality Design ) Credit Hours: 3
This advanced course emphasizes the hospitality industry and requires the completion of a project from preliminary programming and space planning, using anthropometric theory, through to the selection of furnishings and finishes that are ergonomically correct. Comparative analysis, code/legislation and other relevant research and presentations will also be covered in this course.

IDE312 ( Furniture design ) Credit Hours: 3
This course focuses on issues related to custom furniture design including construction, styles, function, technical aspects and costs. Through the study of human form and by researching appropriate materials and construction techniques, students develop a design of a furniture prototype from initial concept to construction.

IDE313 ( Lighting for interior design ) Credit Hours: 3
Lighting for Interiors is an introduction into the exciting world of lighting, where science and art are blended in one form. Color theory, lamps (light bulbs), the behavior of light and our behavior toward light will all be introduced with the goal of providing a working vocabulary and understanding of light as a medium. The course provides the foundation required by today’s design professional to apply, assess and solve interior-design issues and solutions

IDE314 ( History of Furniture and Interior Design II ) Credit Hours: 2
The course covers the history and evolution of furniture styles, decorative elements and motifs, and interior design with a concentration on the East, the Renaissance Period, the New World and the Modern World. The progression and evolution of furniture styles, decoration and the design of the interior environment throughout history give an appreciation for humankind’s achievements and aids in understanding current design trends.

IDE401 ( Interior design V Healthcare ) Credit Hours: 4
The course focuses on the interior design of healthcare facilities. The emphasis is placed on special-needs populations including the cognitively/mentally impaired, geriatric populations and children. In consultation with the instructor, the student design team selects a special population to research. At completion of research, the student team provides programming, pre-design documents and a final design presentation

IDE402 ( Interior construction ) Credit Hours: 2
The aim of this course is to provide the foundation of the construction details for structural elements like walls, floors and ceilings. The technical aspects of interior design with an emphasis on construction techniques, building systems and finishes are the focus of this course.

IDE403 ( Creative Interior Design ) Credit Hours: 3
This is an advanced course, which involves the research and application of design theory to a competition project. Students will prepare competition entries from conceptual diagrams, preliminary design and code analysis to final presentation. Student projects may emphasize “Green” design and/or experimental technology and materials.

IDE411 ( Interior Design VI: Senior Project ) Credit Hours: 5
The senior project course of the Interior Design degree provides the opportunity to design a project which will be the focal point of the student’s portfolio. This course provides the opportunity for students to exhibit the competency and knowledge obtained in all previous interior design courses. Past coursework is called upon to create and produce the appropriate documentation for a project selected by the student. Students prepare their final portfolio with this project serving as the key item. It represents the type of design specialization the student will seek upon graduation.

IDE412 ( Interior Building Systems ) Credit Hours: 3
Course Description: This course covers standard interior building systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical distribution. Students gain more knowledge of the international building code.

IDE413 ( Working Drawing and Specifications ) Credit Hours: 3
In this course, advanced architectural drafting techniques are used to complete a set of working drawings and specifications, and to finish schedules for either a residential or commercial project. The principles of interaction with other design professionals and/or team members are emphasized.
Prerequisite: IDE401 – IDE402
IDE414 ( Universal design ) Credit Hours: 2
This is an advanced course stressing analytical research and the practical implementation of the principles necessary for the design, health and safety of spaces for special population groups, such as children, the physically challenged, the elderly and the poor throughout the world. Students will study “world related” issues in design, such as low-cost housing, recycling of building components and sustainable energy. GDE412 ( Web design ) Credit Hours: 3
This course covers the concepts and application of graphic design for the Worldwide Web. It introduces students to the unique and fascinating world of online interfaces and website development. Students will create original Web sites with attention to design fundamentals such as color, typography, imagery and composition. Web publishing software, multi-media or the Web, animation, interactivity, and basic XHTML are all covered.

The course examines the legal, ethical, and managerial roles and responsibilities of architects in the field of architecture and architectural engineering.
